Title: Beno Skyscrapersim 2 almost ready for pre release

I have been working on the second version of Beno Skyscrapersim.

So far I have made good progress.  I have been working on a system to integrate a javascript based launching application.  This replaces the menu in skyscrapersim.  The new launcher is far more interactive and can parse data from the building creator directly into skyscrapersim. 

A lot of changed have been made to skyscrapersim.  These have been done through reverse engineering the program, as the source code was either missing, or was not easy to compile. 

There are a few things that I am stuck on.  I was wondering if anyone could help me with the following.....

1.  Are there any new features that I have missed.  I have managed to get working escalators and automatic doors running in the building creator.

2.  Are there any scripts or automated user content that provide functionality.  I have used the escalator creation script.  I was wondering if there are any others?

3.  How do fire alarms work.  I have not had much luck at trying to get a working fire alarm system

4.  Does anyone know of any ORGE object library.  I am hoping that Beno Skyscrapersim 2 will contain over 1000 objects that you can include in your buildings.

Also, are there any features that you would like to see added to the building creator.

Is it possible to, say if you have a KONE mod of an older hydraulic made to look like a monospace, will hydraulic equipment be created? Also will there be a choice thing on every lift whether to go with Hydraulic or Traction?

I think there's a blender plugin for that.

Also, are there any features that you would like to see added to the building creator.

Do you have curved walls and floors?

The source code is now available for Skyscraper.  You'll also like using the Ogre version of Skyscraper (which replaced the CS version), it became much more advanced and polished, you left when the Ogre version was just starting to take off.

Keep in mind that the latest versions of Skyscraper support running multiple sim engines in parallel, to create small cities, this would work very good for your environments.  Other changes include a new sound system, multi-deck elevators, working escalators, etc.

Suggestion:

Heads up! beno building creator 3 will be released very soon! On July 29th!

YAY! WE FINALLY WENT THERE! WE WILL SOON HAVE TWO BUILDING CREATORS! Not only that, but an ADVANCED SKYSCRAPERSIM VERSION. :D

We can wait then. Hopefully there isn’t another delay of sorts. At least there’s my building creator for now if you want to make buildings

oh well. In this case school should come first as grades and classwork are more important than anything else. I’m currently in college and I also have classes to take because of this.

I have not had much time to work on this project as I have been very busy and have also been living abroad.   The project is very close to completion.  It just has a few bugs which are a pain to fix.

If anyone would like to help with the project, the new creator will have an option for adding 3d objects.  I would like to have over 100 objects included with it.  These objects are all things commonly found in buildings.  Such as desks, tables, chairs, shelves, shop displays, etc.   As I have so little time to work on this, if anyone would like to render a whole load of objects into the orge format, this would be a great help. 

I will work on the project tomorrow.  I will see if I can get the last few bugs sorted out.  I estimate that it will be 4 full days of work to finish it.  Now it is just a case of finding the time to do this.

Is it a problem only with skyscrapersim or is it just buildings in general? If it’s just the building’s code then maybe someone can help with that. Alternatively, developers have found ways to add custom filler walls to lift doors, such as K.W. and some others and maybe you could their buildings as inspiration if they let you.

  • Will there be an option to add other door types aside from the typical center opening door? E.g. Single-slide, center opening single-speed, center opening dual-speed, left opening dual-speed, right opening dual-speed, left opening single-speed, right-opening single speed, left-opening triple-speed, right opening triple-speed, center opening triple-speed, etc, as well as defining which opening has which door type?
  • Will there be a way for the user to custom-set the speed & acceleration of the lift in-app instead of it doing it predefined for the lift option?
  • Will there be support for interfloor (space between floors) rather than the ceiling height being the height of the specific floor itself?

1.  This is on the todo list and is easy feature to add

2.  This wont be possible on the creator as it is designed for set models of lift, but I may add a system for people to easily submit their own lifts which will be included in future updates.

3.  This has been added.  Getting stairs and escalators to cut the correct walls and floors has turned out to be a complete headache.  One of the most long and annoying things to code

Here is a full list of features that I have added.....

New launcher system for starting the simulator
Create and save files directly into the simulator
Better interface on building creator
Escalators with a quick interface for adding them
Stairwells including open and enclosed
Stairs in atriums
Quick and easy texture selection interface
New interface for managing selective door opening on lifts
Realistic lift surfing
Inspection controls
Lifts stop when the doors are forced open
Lifts have chassis, and the chassis is the correct color for the lift model
Diagonal chassis are also available for lifts with 2 sets of doors at 90 degrees
New interface for creating doors
Automatic doors
Option for brick buildings with manual window placement
New interface for adding custom object files (optionally you can set objects to have physics so you can throw stuff down escalates in a realistic way)
Custom text sign creation including shop fronts, internal signs, and signs on doors
Drivable car selection
Fire alarm systems including main panel, call points, sounders and lifts go into fire mode on activation of fire alarm
Building control panel for locking down building and putting lifts into up peak
TV screens that show a slideshow of images

Eventually all of the lift types will be redesigned, but this wont be for a while.

I’m excited for the release! ;D

The new engine will be much better than that of the official skyscrapersim!

My building creator will still be up however as I believe BENO’s creator will presumably only work with this versions and not the official release. Despite this, I’m excited and I want to give it a try!

So far the release date has NOT been posted :(
Hopefully you will be able to post it whenever possible. Hopefully it would be fundamentally different than the version we currently have

Looking back at this post, it seems that BENO STILL HASNT MADE AN UPDATE. :(

However it seems that there’s a Beno Building Simulator page on BENO’s website and I believe this may be a version of skyscrapersim:

I may end up making an overhaul to my building creator as the code is getting harder to maintain and I want to add in more features. So far, I have implemented the “jumper” feature, so you can snap rooms together. I’m also making it more complex and customizable than the other one.
