Download Skyscraper Simulator / Re: New build: 3/12/24 build
« on: March 13, 2024, 09:49:15 am »
Is there a way to remove the FPS counter or is it built-in and not supposed to be turned off? I'm thinking that some people wouldn't really like to see their FPS ;)
Press the F9 key. It will alternate between displaying only the frame rate, showing full frame information, and not showing the FPS at all.

Thanks a bunch! I'm just blind and thought "Statistics Display" meant something else, so I didn't touch it in the readme file :D

That works, thanks! Definitely should be adding something like that to the guide if you're not planning on making it automatically true. Possibly adding this simple text as seen in this attachment wouldn't be a bad idea :)

Software / Camera Movement through F5 (The Free-Look Mode)
« on: March 11, 2024, 08:03:52 am »
One of the issues of the free-look mode is that there's no cap in rotation, which means you can do vision backflips and frontflips all you'd like. I feel like this should be fixed, because my sensitivity was way too high so when I moved my mouse just a few centimeters, I did about 5 backflips - crazy :D

I've attached a zip file containing a simple showcase on how the camera movement is messed up. Maybe cap it at a 90 degree vertical angle on both sides with a new little patch? Or have settings involving sensitivity of the controller used ;)

Here's some information on the changes to Skyscraper in the last year:

Middle of last year I split out the Skyscraper website and downloads into 2 separate servers, the website is still hosted on the main server, but the downloads (and custom downloads) are now hosted on the newer Skyscraper CDN server.  This was done because the AWS CDN gives me a free 1tb of outbound bandwidth to use, which makes it less costly than what was done before.  The custom downloads section has a user backend that lets you upload building/data packages to the server so you can share them.

You probably saw the addition of the Destination Dispatch (and call stations) feature, that was done early last year.  Lots of Mac fixes were put in place, so Skyscraper is now running very well on Mac systems, I just put in another Mac fix tonight (to turn off that Caelum error that happens on startup every time).  An Ogre change to the text-to-texture system was reverted so now it works like it used to with older versions.  The DoorSystem feature was introduced, which moves the door processing code out of the elevator door system into it's own code file, and is now shared by standard doors and elevator doors, this was done to make it possible to create things like sliding doors.  Ogre has been upgraded to version 14.  There's also been lots of fixes :)

Skyscraper sites:
https://www.skyscrapersim.net (hosted on the Elaina server)
https://download.skyscrapersim.net (hosted on the CDN server)
https://custom.skyscrapersim.net (hosted on the CDN server)
https://wiki.skyscrapersim.net (hosted on the Elaina server)

Woah, that's a lot! Thank you for caring about my time! I hope everything will come together and that the multiplayer thing will work out ;)

General Discussion / Updates & Development

Hello everyone! :D

Finally glad to be back, I missed all of this and you, awesome people! Since I haven't been here for almost a year now, could you help me remember some things and how the development is going along? I'm unfortunately too busy to look through everything myself, and honestly, I missed out on lots and lots of things, but I won't try forgetting my login details again ;D

I will also post some Google Forms into Off Topics later today because my studies require answers and graphs, so if anyone could check that out later, it would be really beneficial and help me a lot. And while I'm at getting back, how are you guys? If anyone needs help with any studies, especially mathematics, I'm here for ya, leave a message!

I love all of you! :)

Elevator Discussion / Re: Have you ever been stuck in a lift/elevator
« on: April 18, 2023, 10:59:23 am »
Been stuck recently for another good hour since anyone came. Those are the best times to just sit down, pull out your laptop to do some work or check your camera for the amazing shots you took of riding elevators right before you done messed up and got stuck! :D
I love these moments! I always carry the required tools with me to get the video file into my laptop and I can actually edit it in peace with headphones on. Fun times, really. Getting stuck often for longer periods of time is my curse which I secretly love but say I hate :)

General Discussion / Re: Training ChatGPT to create buildings.

I did try it out as soon as I could sign in. It's a very smart AI indeed. I'm happy we could maybe use it in the future to do a bunch of things.
Training it with the design guide could bring very interesting results, such as seriously completing buildings on its own! :)

I've been stuck in an elevator once, but luckily not for long. The elevator stopped between the 3.rd and the 4.rd floor, the floor indicator went out. After 10 seconds it moved to the 3.rd floor. After 30 seconds it went to the floor -1. The elevator was built by Haushahn in 1988.

Lucky! I get stuck all the time. The worst one happened fairly recently, I was stuck for around an hour before anyone came to help. Just kinda sat down, pulled out my laptop and posted a few stuff on here :D

How old are the elevators in which you often get stuck?

Usually around 2007 approximately, not very old, not very new. I can get stuck in completely new elevators too, though (knowing my luck :D)

Do you often get stuck in generics?

50/50. Sometimes overall. I haven't been riding any elevators recently and have to change that, so I can't exactly tell you.

Thank you, people! It really matters to me and I'm glad I got to get some results. I will continue collecting data, so if anyone wants to respond further, this is an active topic until the 21st December. Again, much thank yous to you :)

If you're still in school (whether it's high school or college), what are you studying? Do you prefer working in groups or alone? I have a few questions about the school system in your country, and I would also appreciate some extra stuff, like "what is your dream job?", etc.. Go all out, I need it! This is my mid-term project I will be making a graph out off. The longer the response, the better ;)

  • What do you think of your school (or job) and the teaching system in your country?
  • What would you change about your school if you were a teacher/principal/anyone in charge of the whole education system?
  • On a scale on 1-10, how much do (or did) you enjoy going to school?
  • Would you like to become a teacher? If so, what would you want to teach and how would you teach it? (3 classes max.)

I love it! ;)
Good job!

Schindlers. Definitely.
Though I get stuck in them the most. I have my luck ;D
