« on: July 16, 2025, 11:54:35 am »
Thanks for announcing about this, and I hope a bright future waits for you. For the past while, I noticed that you were not as active much as before; glad to be informed of your current status.

Thank you MN10! It's been a pleasure serving the last nearly 13 years. Can't wait to see what life continues to bring for me!

Welcome Center / Stepping Down as Global Moderator on July 31st
« on: July 15, 2025, 11:00:28 pm »
Dear Skyscraper Simulator Forum Members,

Some of you probably don't know who I am, but I have been serving as Global Moderator for the past nearly 13 years. I am writing this message to formally inform you of my intentions to resign as Global Moderator, effective at the end of the month (July 31st, 2025).

Although I am still interested in the project, I have had plenty of changes in my own life where I don't have as much time to participate as much as I would like to, let alone, serve as Global Moderator. I would rather see the position to go someone else who is more active on the forum.

I have seen tremendous progress over the years with the project - from the development to all the user created content. I must say that I am quite impressed with the progress.

It has been a pleasure serving as Global Moderator for the past nearly 13 years. I still intend to keep my account on the forum and stop by to check out the progress from time to time, but will no longer serve as Global Moderator

Thanks,
NewEnglandElevators

Build 16 Released

Build 16 is now released!

Overview
This build releases the new Doolittle Meridian Center, consisting of the existing Doolittle St. parking deck (across from Northeast Triad Convention Center) and a 19-story office tower (Tower 1) connected to the garage.  The Northeast Triad Convention Center BLD file will load this complex by default, but there is also a BLD file that loads the garage and tower, and one that loads just the tower (I'd recommend at least loading the garage and tower together).

The office tower simulates a late-1980s into 1990s facility that was renovated to keep its space attractive to modern-day tenants, comparable to suburban or "just outside downtown" office buildings in the US.  A building this tall outside of a downtown would exist in a city like Atlanta or Dallas.

This building really pushed my coding skills.  Some novel implementations I did include...
  • Curved walls, exterior, and cylindrical columns
  • Using SetTextureMapping to get curved surfaces textured properly
  • Using SetPlanarMapping to keep texture tiling seamless (such as false ceiling tiles)
  • Curved outdoor pathways
  • Realistic terrain with drainage elements
  • Non-orthogonal doorways (no operable doors though)
  • Water fountains
  • Yes, this works!  Using TextureOverride on elevator shaft doors to make the interior of elevator shafts more realistic
  • The skybridge was tricky as it kinks over to avoid a column in the garage and also travels across the load boundary of the garage and the tower.
  • Neat Trick!   I discovered this on accident.  Using negative wall and floor thicknesses can be used to create rooms, chambers, tunnels, insides of things, etc. using less lines of code.  Essentially, if you enter a negative number for thickness in AddWall or AddFloor, instead of creating the outsides of a box, you create the insides of a box.  The only caveat is negative thickness will flip the direction of wall and floor orientations.

Hope you enjoy!

This is amazing! Keep up the good work.

Off Topic / Modular-Built Hotels!
« on: December 19, 2019, 11:20:24 pm »
Not sure if anyone has heard of this new trend, but I stumbled upon this article today on Yahoo Finance about how hotel companies are starting to build some of their new buildings using modular sections, similar to LEGO sets.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/hotel-developers-are-pushing-this-legolike-construction-trend-160418613.html

Ultimately, this allows for speedier and more cost effective construction of the building. This practice has probably been done worldwide already, but the trend is starting to come here to the US. Nationwide, more and more chains are picking up on the trend, specifically Marriott who is mentioned in this article. A brand new Marriott location that was built modularly is set to open late next year (it's got 26 floors). Doing some other research, another article I found mentions a brand new Hilton Garden Inn that will be built modularly.

As a lot of us here are interested not only in buildings, architecture, but also hotels, figured this would be a good thing to share. Let me know your thoughts.

Off Topic / Re: Why this kid like STEALING EVERYTHINGS?!?!?!?

Honestly, I would just start to ignore it at this point. It's possible whoever is stealing the content is probably looking for a reaction. Locking the topic; hopefully by starting to ignore this issue, they will stop with the content stealing as a result. Figured I would just throw my $0.02 out there.

Elevator Discussion / Re: Partnership between two elevator companies
« on: March 14, 2019, 07:14:45 pm »

Some of these companies are:
1. Mitsubishi (Japan) < > Westinghouse
Mitsubishi had a technical cooperation with Westinghouse USA, therefore a lot of old 1960s-1970s Mitsubishi elevators used Westinghouse's "monkey on a stick" floor selector and Selectomatic "dinner bell" chime. In addition, Mitsubishi's door tracks and white buttons were based on Westinghouse's design (the white buttons were based on Westinghouse's AE buttons)

5. Elevadores Atlas (Brazil) < > Westinghouse
This Brazilian company had a long partnership with Westinghouse and sometimes both companies would exchange patents with each others. For example, Atlas would use Westinghouse's design and Westinghouse would use steels from Villares, Atlas's parent company (Atlas was in fact a subsidiary of the Villares steel group). Atlas's elevators were heavily based on Westinghouse. After Westinghouse was sold to Schindler in 1989, Atlas went on its own until it was acquired by Schindler in 1999 and became Atlas Schindler.

7. Express Lift (United Kingdom) < > Westinghouse
Westinghouse also had a technical partnership with Northampton-based Express Lift Co. Ltd., notably on the development of Express Lift's DMR programmed elevator control for high-rise buildings. The DMR control is in fact based on the Westinghouse Selectomatic system.

Ah! That makes sense now, I thought I've noticed some Westy traits in some of these elevators. Thanks for sharing.

General Discussion / Re: Look my unofficial site

I created an unofficial site.

Looks nice...I like the website a lot!

(heads up, I split this topic and moved it as I felt it would be more appropriate to have a separate topic, and moved it to the appropriate spot).

Have a nice throwback to the 90's inteior design.

Nice to see some 90's interior throwback in some projects.
