Making a scratch version of skyscrapersim
« on: June 13, 2022, 02:26:56 pm »
Hi! I’m currently making a 3D raycaster in Scratch so I could simulate builds made by my building creator.

It is almost like skyscrapersim in a way, and fortunately it will be the first as many elevator/lift projects on Scratch tend to be 2D and only access the elevator itself. In this version you can ride elevators and explore buildings, as you normally would in Scratch. The downfall, of course, is that skyscrapersim looks better and feels better, but at least you have something to use if you want to make buildings and don’t have skyscrapersim to test it, but eventually would once you have access to it. ;)

How will it work
It will be 3 dimensional, and it will use a pen based raycaster (similar to sprite-based but not quite). If it ever lags it is highly recommended to use TurboWarp.

When will it be released
It will not be very soon. I have already got the simulation engine ready but there is more stuff to implement, including elevators and possibly adding textures. In this case it would have to be July or later. One thing to mention is that college classes are resuming for me and I also need to make sure that my building creator is fully ready and has the necessary features.

What will I need in order for it to work
You just need the building file that you created using my building creator. ::) No other skyscrapersim building will work on this simulator, whether it is hand coded or it made by some other building creator (BENO for instance). :-X

What is Scratch?
Scratch is a block based programming platform for anyone to share creations to the public and for people to transform upon ideas and remix into their own ideas.

How is it possible to do 3D in scratch?
It is possible but it requires skill. Although scratch is specifically a 2D platform, many users including griffpatch have been able to pull off and push scratch to its limits. The possibilities are endless. ;D I also used Scratch for my building creator, because there is a well established elevator community, and it was in the best interest for me to do so.
Together, we can innovate Skyscrapersim in many ways that has never been seen before. Just bring up an idea and we can implement it!
