For some reason, at least in the Macintosh version, if you press shift and left at the same time, maybe other keys, it's left moving to the left with no way out of it except to end the simulation.

EDIT: As it turns out I was pressing wrong keys. I found it's part of a sticky keys bug that only gets resolved by pressing the button that's stuck.
